The NWC Caribbean Pilates® Teachers’ Training Courses presented below are essential to receiving proper Pilates training and Certification. These student teachers’ training courses are based on a comprehensive curriculum that is supported by teachers’ training manuals and study guide material.

All student teachers are required to attend the NWC Caribbean Pilates® Teachers’ Training Course lectures and practical labs (including assignments, quizzes and projects) to receive credit toward Certification.

Here is a brief description of our NWC Caribbean Pilates® Teachers’ Training Courses:

COURSE 101

The information and knowledge gained during Course 101 is a part of the foundation of the Essential Program and therefore importance to becoming a NWC Caribbean Pilates® Teacher. Student teachers will have an opportunity to learn about the theoretical movement principles and concepts of Pilates, as they are applied to the fundamental exercises.

This teachers training course is further broken down into three (3) modules to teach the theoretical movement principles and concepts of Pilates. Each module has distinction and importance to the process of learning the Pilates method.

Once a student applies for Course 101 and receives approval by the director of education, then he or she will be given a student syllabus that will include course overviews, objectives, self - study (material) and partner practice (instruction).

Here are some examples of what students will learn, observe and understand during Course 101.

Objectives:
  • Learn and practice the stages of breathing.
  • Understand the role of the breathing muscles.
  • Deepen the course of the breath through Pilates Breathing.
  • Learn and practice the movement Principle of Stabilization.
  • Observe good static posture as well as other types of posture.
  • Observe the structures associated with the line of gravity.
  • Identify the musculoskeletal attachments that coordinate with these structures.
  • Learn about the theoretical principle of Engagement.
Pre-requisites:

Prior to applying for Course 101, please review the list below to see if you qualify to attend this course. Students who may wish to enroll in Course 101 (for reasons other than Certification) can consult with the assistance director of education, Namaste Wellness Centre Ltd.

Students are required to submit an application, along with a registration fee prior to completing enrollment in Course 101. The Program Director will assess your qualifications for the course. We reserve the right to decline an application.

Here is a list of qualifications for Course 101:
  • Prior knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the human body (including the musculoskeletal system, nervous system and circulatory system).
  • Prior knowledge of the biomechanics of the human body.
  • Preferably a course completion in anatomy and physiology.
  • Several character references (business references accepted).
  • Preferably two to three years of experiences in the health and fitness industry.
  • At least six to nine months of experience in attending a Pilates group lessons or private Pilates lessons.
COURSE 102

Student teachers have an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the biomechanics of the body with Course 102. They will learn more about the kinesthetic and energetic relationship between the larger and smaller muscle groups in the human body, which is essential as a Pilates teacher.

This teachers training course is a part of the Essential Program and is broken down into three (3) modules to teach the biomechanical movement principles of Pilates. Each module has distinction and importance to the process of learning the Pilates method.

Once a student teacher applies for Course 102 and received approval by the director of education, then he or she will be given a student syllabus that will include course overviews, objectives, self - study (material) and Partner Practice (instruction).

Here are some examples of what students will learn, observe and understand during Course 102:

Objectives:
  • Learn the dynamic movements in the NWCC Pilates® Transitional Exercise System.
  • Understand the breathing pattern within the Pilates movements and exercise.
  • Observe the musculoskeletal relationships within the Pilates exercises.
  • Learn and practice how to adopt the small pieces of equipment.
  • Learn and practice how to modify and vary a workout.

  • Students who wish to receive credit toward their Certification must complete and pass their examinations for Course 101, plus the Practical Exam.
  • At least nine to twelve months of experience in attending a Pilates group lessons or private Pilates lessons.
COURSE 103

The third course of the Essential Program expands on the understanding of the dimensions of the body. Student teachers will learn more about the Fundamental Linked Concepts of Pilates to apply theory to hands-on learning.

This teachers training course is a part of the Essential Program and is broken down into three (3) modules to teach the self - imposing movement principles of Pilates. Each module has distinction and importance to the process of learning the Pilates method.

Once a student applies for Course 103 and received approval by the director of education, then he or she will be given a student syllabus that will include course overviews, objectives, self - study (material) and Partner Practice (instruction).

Here are some examples of what students will learn, observe and understand during Course 103:

Objective:
  • Understand Fundamental Linked Concepts in Pilates.
  • Understand the extended positions of the Pilates matwork.
  • Learn how to improve the flexibility of the body.
  • Learn how to improve muscle strength/endurance of the body.
  • Observe the importance of the resting principle in Pilates.

  • Complete Course 101 and 102 prior to applying to Course 103.
  • Students who wish to receive credit toward their Certification must complete and pass their examinations for Course 101 and Course 102, plus the Practical Exams.
  • At least twelve to fifteen months of experience in attending a Pilates group lessons or private Pilates lessons.
COURSE 201

This course offers a deeper dialogue about the theories behind the Pilates Method. The insight behind the theory of “Mind Over Matter” is discussed and applied within the structure of this course.

This teachers training course is a part of the Advanced Program and is broken down into five (5) modules to teach the advanced movement principles of Pilates. Each module has distinction and importance to the process of learning the Pilates method.

Once a student applies for Course 201 and received approval by the director of education, then he or she will be given a student syllabus that will include course overviews, objectives, self - study (material) and Partner Practice (instruction).

Here are some examples of what students will learn, observe and understand during Course 201:

Objective:
  • Learn the advanced techniques of Pilates Breathing.
  • Learn and practice various techniques of Relaxation to enhance the mind/body connection.
  • Understand the advanced movement perspectives, like the Bridging Series in conjunction with their energy systems.
  • Learn about the pathways of the body as they relate to the activity/function of the vital organ systems.
  • Recognize the importance of balance in terms of the elements of the body.
  • Learn about the theory of Super-Imposition.

  • Students who wish to receive credit toward their Certification must complete and pass their examinations for Course 101, Course 102 and Course 103, plus the Practical Exams.
  • At least fifteen to eighteen months of experience in attending a Pilates group class or Private Pilates sessions.
