BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF STUDIO CLASSES and BENEFITS: PILATES

The Pilates Mat is used in private, duet and semi-private lessons to condition the spine, core muscles and the extremities. NWCC Pilates® focuses its movements and exercises through the function of the breath, namely diaphragmatic breathing. The increase of oxygen flow to the muscles (including the brain) enhances cellular growth and regeneration. There is a noticeable increase in strength, tone and flexibility.

The Pilates Reformer is used in private, duet, and semi-private lessons as well as group lessons to charge the cellular body throughout the workout. The weight and partial weight - bearing movements are essential to strength the energetic and kinesthetic pathways of the body. The technique of Reformer teaches the importance of balancing muscle groups to restore the systems of the body.






The Stability Chair (often called by the late Joseph Pilates as the ‘Wunda Chair’) is used in private, duet and semi-private lessons as well as group lessons to improve the biomechanics of walking, running and activity; muscle strength is key to maintaining balance and coordination as well as functional independent movement. In particular, the Stability Chair focuses on upper and lower body strengthening and conditioning, which is essential for balancing the core muscles in Pilates.


The Cadillac (or Trapeze Table) used in private, duet, and semi-private lessons to enhance muscle strength and endurance as well as increase circulation, flexibility and ROM. Guiding the student through focused movement is essential to understanding the individual needs and goals of the clients.






The Barrels (Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Arc) are used in private and semi-private lessons as well as group lessons (the arc) to increase core strength, flexibility and range-of-motion in the spine and extremities. The Ladder Barrel and smaller pieces serve the postural alignment of the body. Pilates recognizes the age of the spine not only in time but also as a function of memory.

YOGA

The physical aspect of Yoga use poses and focused breathing, which requires concentration and discipline. The result of proper breathing and exercise as well as relaxation and meditation is a greater union of mind, body and breath.

Yoga Alignment-Based Hatha/Raja
Hatha and Raja Yoga is the traditional practice of physical postures and breathing exercises, which bring balance to the body and mind. Alignment-based Hatha Yoga emphasizes the alignment of the body to assist in achieving maximum benefit of the postures. Benefits can include physical improvements such as posture, mobility, flexibility as well as overall strength and vitality.






Meditation Lessons teaches the focus of the breath, the alignment of the body, and the awareness of the mind.
